My name is Fernando Ribeiro. I live in Porto, Portugal. I’m 40 years old, an engineer and researcher,
and I’ve decided to turn a dream I’ve had for over 20 years into a journey with a purpose: to cross the
Andes Mountains by bicycle, from Colombia to Argentina. It will be a journey with no set route or
deadlines, guided by a spirit of adventure and discovery, and by the desire to make a difference.
Between 2014 and 2017, I lived in Mozambique, a country that left a deep impression on me. That is
why I chose to link this adventure to a charitable cause, supporting Mozambikes, a Mozambican social
enterprise that produces bicycles locally to improve access to education, healthcare, and economic
opportunities in rural communities. Over the years, Mozambikes has helped thousands of people
bridge distances and transform lives.
In many rural areas of Mozambique, children and young people walk long distances every day to get
to school, facing exhaustion, difficult roads, and obstacles that jeopardise their ability to stay in school.
Through this campaign, the funds raised will support the production and donation of bicycles, offering
a simple, sustainable, and transformative solution: greater access to education, more time to learn,
and more opportunities for the future.
As I cycle through the Andes, I carry this mission with me and the certainty that a bicycle can change
lives.
