Sobre este projecto

This project aims to contribute to the reduction of the prevalence of chronic malnutrition in children under five years old and to the reduction of the food insecurity situation in the district of Ilha de Moçambique.

Ilha de Moçambique is located in the province of Nampula, which is the province with the highest rate of chronic malnutrition (above 50%, SETSAN, 2013).

According to these data, and through an action strategy based on the principles of Food and Nutrition Education, this project has the specific objective of improving the nutritional status of women, pregnant and lactating women (MGL), and children during the first 1000 days of life (crucial period for physical and cognitive development) through the production of local foods and their annual availability using conservation, processing and storage techniques (CTA).

Community agricultural demonstration fields will be created in the 5 communities and 150 LGM (30 in each community) representing their households will be chosen to be trained by a network of 25 women activists in CTA techniques and cooking demonstrations using local foods.

These communities see the added value of acquiring a bicycle for each of the 25 women activists, active and vigilant in their communities, in the sense that they will fulfil their role more successfully and reach more households with their knowledge. Fondly nicknamed Nutribike, this would be a bicycle adapted so that the woman activist can carry with her, in her backpack and/or in the basket of her bicycle, a mini travelling kitchen equipped with all the materials and tools necessary for cooking classes, CTA and awareness raising in the community. The access to a bicycle for these women activists will certainly increase their motivation for active participation in the project and allow them to continuously follow up with the beneficiaries.

Total beneficiaries: 15,299 households in the Mozambique Island district; 11,669 children under 5 years old in the Mozambique Island district. General Objectives: •To reduce infant and juvenile mortality ; •To reduce the prevalence of chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years old ; •To reduce the food insecurity situation of households ; •To contribute to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in this province of Nampula.

This campaign will provide: • 25 Bicycles • Transport and storage • Spare parts and accessories • Basic training on bicycle care and maintenance

Hey! We've raised $0 of the $3,750.00 we are trying to raise for this campaign!
