About This Project

Casa do Gaiato is a family for those who do not have one

This great initiative known as Casa do Gaiato, was founded by Padre Américo (Américo Monteiro de Aguiar) in 1940 and aims to welcome, educate and integrate into society, children and young people who, for whatever reason, have no family or don´t have anyone that takes care of them.

The existence of Casa do Gaiato depends on projects, donations and activities of self-sustainability. In which the boys are educated with the system of self-learning. Developing their skills and discover a future profession, all under the supervision of their masters, teachers and older boys, in a family environment.

At present, it has the capacity to accommodate 150 children residents, providing them with human, academic and professional training according to the age and aptitude of each young man. The School as a Community, welcomes 634 external students, from preschool to 10th Grade. The School also receives inmates over the age of 18 for vocational or academic training until they are able to find a job.

This campaign will provide bicycles for 11 of these students between the ages of 16 and 25. This transport will allow, among other things, the boys to carry out their tasks faster and not to walk long distances. On a bicycle, they will become more autonomous and will be able to help their brothers and their Institution.

These bikes were donated by one of Mozambikes' ambassadors, Vanessa Rosenfeld and will be distributed in March 2017 at Casa do Gaiato.
