Pedaling for the community development
Fundação Encontro is a Mozambican non-profit organization of public interest, that works with the Communities of the Districts of Boane (Massaca and Mahanhane) and Namaacha (Mahelane, Changalane, Ndividuane), in the South of Mozambique.
Despite the proximity of these communities to the town of Boane, it is quite difficult to get there because they are located in remote areas with few accesses and only by foot or on a bicycle, you can move around.
These communities live in extreme conditions, being the lack of transport one of them. Students walk to school and women have to walk to their small plots (machambas) on foot and come back with the weight of the products and tools in their own heads.
This campaign will provide bicycles for 68 people from these 5 communities, mostly women and students that walk more than 2 hours every day. A bicycle will not only drastically change their lives and reduce the time they spend traveling to school or machambas but will also add value to this rural village and community in general.
These bikes were donated by the McHugh Family of Ireland and will be distributed in March 2017 in Massaca.
