AIDGLOBAL created the project “Educators in Movement - An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood”, the project intends for the Itinerant Childhood Education (EII) services to be managed by and integrated in 5 communities namely: Chiconelane (Godide), Malehice Sede, Maivene (Malehice), Bairro 25 de Junho (Chibuto) and Chaimite Sede, in a sustainable way and that the communities themselves have the necessary skills for the integral development of the pre-school child.
The EII services are aimed at 200 children between 4 and 6 years old, and are developed daily, outdoors, based on learning by nature and using the Bibliotchova, a bicycle with a traveling library with bilingual books, games and toys, promoted by “Educadoras em Movimento” who are young mothers previously trained. These young mothers also come to the community to refer cases of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and situations of discrimination and violence.
In Mozambique, 4% of children under 5 years of age attend pre-school (EPE) (Ministry of Education, 2012). There is a low perception of parents and the community about the importance of EPE, high female illiteracy and insufficient initiatives to promote Health and Citizenship by the authorities aimed at children of preschool age.
It is intended to raise funds for 5 bicycles for this project in order to help them to move around easier and improve the use of librarians and contributing to the reduction of illiteracy in Mozambique.
