The Dombe community is located in rural Sussundenga district in the central region of Mozambique, 145 km from Chimoio, capital city of Manica province. The district of Sussundenga has an area of 7057 km², and according to the latest sense, the district has 87.9 thousand inhabitants, mostly speaking the local language, Ndau. Pastoralism and family farming are the main sources of income for the population of Sussundenga district. In the first quarter of this year, Dombe's administrative post was heavily affected by Cyclone idai, which has claimed casualties in almost every central region of the country. Dombe is in dire straits because of the damage caused by the passing of natural disaster that has left many families homeless, data confirming more than 450 deaths, high numbers of injured and missing, and irreparable damage to the region's structures. The community lost practically all agricultural production and livestock, which were the main source of income for families. Currently, the locality Dombe residents travel long distances, because due to cyclone, everything has become far due to impassable some way. In Dombe, there are two secondary schools, one belonging to the State (Dombe Secondary School), which teaches from 8th to 10th grade. And the other is Dombe Providence Divine Community High School, belonging to the Dombe Mission that teaches from 8th to 12th grade with 647 students. Despite the existence of boarding schools in the community secondary school, 45% of the students walk an average of 13 km round trip to achieve school attendance. Community activists who to provide health care through the mobile campaign to fight malaria and other diseases, travel distances of over 24 km. Helpo, in partnership with the Dombe Mission, Administrative Post Health Center and the Provincial Government is directly on the ground providing emergency response support. The campaign aims to support the most affected community with a means of transport. , the bicycle and thus facilitate their access to education, clinics, machambas or even in search of water and firewood for their families, trying to make their day to day less difficult.
