Amade: Building a Future on Two Wheels

Published:  October 13, 2026

On Mozambique Island, a bicycle workshop is helping one young man build a livelihood while continuing his education.

On Mozambique Island, Amade is doing something that many young people in communities with limited employment opportunities are trying to achieve: building a future through his own work. While studying, he also runs his bicycle workshop, combining education with entrepreneurship and turning a practical skill into a source of income.

Through Bike Negócio, Mozambikes supported Amade in strengthening his workshop and developing his business as a local bicycle mechanic. Today, his workshop provides an essential service to the community, giving people a place where they can repair and maintain their bicycles locally. But for Amade, the workshop represents much more than repairing bicycles. It is an opportunity to work, earn an income, and gain experience while continuing his studies.

His story reflects an important part of what Mozambikes is trying to achieve. When we put bicycles into communities, we also need to think about what happens afterwards. Who maintains them? Where do people go when something breaks? And, perhaps most importantly, how can mobility create economic opportunities for the people who live there?

Bike Negócio is designed around those questions. By supporting local mechanics like Amade, we are helping create the services that keep bicycles on the road while giving individuals the opportunity to build their own businesses and livelihoods. The bicycle creates mobility, but the person behind the workshop creates continuity.

Amade is studying while working, building his skills and growing his business at the same time. His journey is a reminder that changing lives is not always about one big intervention. Sometimes it is about giving someone the tools and opportunity to start building something of their own. Watch Amade talk about his journey, his workshop and what Bike Negócio means to him.
